NEW! Earth Friendly!

Open May 21, 2010

Greenstone Art:
In keeping with the keep-it-green spirit, much of the wall art is reclaimed from the old Viking's Motel, just as the wooden Greenstone-Inn sign is a re-work of the old Viking's sign.

Greenstone hallways are hung with works offered for sale by local artists: a kind of Greenstone Gallery.

The Greenstone Inn has twenty brand new, earth-friendly* units. Every one of them with a breathtaking ocean view, a private balcony overlooking Nye Beach, and stair access to the shore.

Greenstone Inn is three stories high plus underground parking. Yes! There is an elevator. You can rest easy in a structure fully secured by Onity electronic key-card locks.

Every unit has a gas fireplace. All have microwave ovens, mini refrigerators, and coffee makers. Greenstone accommodations include Direct TV and WiFi. No land-line phones.

Choose from studios for 2 or 4, or one-bedroom and two-bedroom units for up to 4. In addition, some units can be conjoined (studio plus one-bedroom unit) to accommodate up to 6 or 8.

Every unit has custom furnishings chosen for sustainability. Photos are now available for all units. The architect's original floor plans are also available.

Greenstone Inn opened May 21, receiving rave reviews from our first guests. To make reservations, phone the Viking's-Greenstone Inn office 800-480-2477. Or Reserve Online.

To learn more about this Earth-friendly innovative project, see the Greenstone Press release or visit our "how green?" page.

As you tread lightly upon the Earth, Greenstone Inn welcomes you with unmatched marine vistas, clean ocean air, and stair access to the sands of beautiful Nye Beach. Truly a place to renew mind and spirit, the Greenstone Inn is destined to be a celebration of this planet we call home.

An Earth Friendly - Green Facility

*Earth Friendly. Thinking globally - building locally.
The new complex incorporates "green" technology such as:

Greenstone has Energy Star appliances, low-energy compact florescent lighting, and water-saving showers and water-saving dual-option toilets in every unit.

Charging stations for twenty-first century electric vehicles are planned.

The entire project has been conservation mindful. Tear-down materials from the old cottages were recycled as far as possible. Wooden members were salvaged for reuse; if unusable due to mold or deterioration, old wood was disposed of by chipping. Asbestos was responsibly removed and disposed of. The Greenstone Inn blogspot has more photos of the teardown/recycle phase of construction.

Wherever possible, renewable and/or recycled materials were used to build and furnish Greenstone:

Local contractors and labor have been employed in every phase.

Even our Web site is "green!" GreenGeeks is an environmentally clean Web hosting service, powered by Wind generators and feeding the grid at three times the electricity consumed by their servers!

Solar Electric Power. Greenstone Inn. Clean Renewable Energy. The Greenstone Inn is committed to sustainable practices. There are 16,740 watts of solar panels on the south roofs of this building. The inverters mounted on this wall convert DC poer from the panels to AC power used by the Inn.

About us. For decades the Viking's Cottages were a favorite of vacationers in the charming Nye Beach section of Newport, Oregon. These picturesque cabins closed for good in December 2007.

The Viking's Cottages have been replaced by the Greenstone Inn, opening May 21, 2010. The Greenstone Inn is a dramatic new complex of 20 units, each with unobstructed ocean view and convenient beach access.
